Bethel Junior High PTSA welcomes back our Bethel families to the 2009-2010 school year.

The Bethel Junior High Parent/Teacher/Student Association provides parents, teachers, and students with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child.  Our goals are to help provide a safe, healthy, and successful school environment.

Bethel Jr. High PTSA is made up of local parents, teachers, and students who have a desire to make Bethel Jr. High a great place to attend. We are a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers to achieve success.

MYTH:  I have to join PTSA to volunteer at the school.

BUST:  Joining PTSA is not a requirement for volunteering.  The requirement for volunteering is that you have a current volunteer packet on file with the district office.  The packet must be renewed every two years and is available at the district office or office of any of the local schools.

MYTH:  My student no longer wants me to volunteer at his/her school anymore.

BUST:  There are things you can do to help out without your student feeling “embarrassed”.  You could help with staff lunches, be an advisory aide, help with bookfair, or be a hallway monitor/greeter in another part of the building.

MYTH:  Junior Highs no longer need volunteers.

BUST:  Volunteering at a Jr. High is very different than in an elementary school, but volunteers are still needed.  Please see the “Volunteering” page for ideas.

MYTH:  If I say “yes” to volunteering once, I am committed to volunteering a lot, or that I am required to volunteer once a week.

BUST:  Not true.  You still might get a call to ask if you would volunteer, but you are always free to say “no”.  Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

MYTH:  I work full-time, so I cannot volunteer.

BUST:  Volunteering does not always require you to be there during school hours.  Please see “Volunteering” page for ideas.

MYTH:  PTSA is a clique.

BUST:  While it is true that some PTA/PTSAs can become cliques, BJH PTSA is striving hard to not be one.  PTSA needs to be more than just the four officers.  We want this to be a community of Parents, Teachers, and Students who desire to see BJH be the best school it can be.  We are excited and encouraged by adults and students who want to make BJH a great place to attend!  As a member, you are encouraged to share your ideas for improvements or new projects.  You can have a voice!

MYTH:  PTSA just wants my money.

BUST:  It is true that PTSA requires fundraising, but that is not the only thing we need. The majority of our fundraising money goes directly to help students in need and classroom grants to enhance teaching.  Overhead and misc. costs are kept to a minimum.  PTSA needs your ideas and talents to improve what we do.  The success of the students is our top priority.

No position in PTSA is paid. All volunteers are greatly appreciated. PTSA has multiple areas you can help in, whether it is occasionally or regularly.

Are you unable to be in the school, but still want to help. We need:

Escript: This person helps to get people to sign up with their Safeway cards. Our school receives money from Safeway purchases made by people with these cards. This requires occasionally data entry.

Food Donations We are in need of people to cook or donate food for teacher luncheons or other ptsa events.

Can you help out regularly? We need:

Lunchroom Monitors: This person attends student lunch time once a week or once every other week to monitor appropriate behavior.

Library Help: We help the library to shelve books, update bulletin boards, and help in doing spring inventory.

Want to help occasionally? We need:

Staff Birthday: Once a month deliver a special note or wish teachers a happy birthday.

Staff Luncheon: Every two months, during lunch times, we honor our teachers with a lunch. We need help session up, cleaning up and refilling food dishes.

Book Fair: Twice a year, a book fair is held for one week. We need help in two hour time increments. Take as many slots as you would like. Bookfair is from 7:20-200pm and a late shift of 6-8pm on Thursday. PTSA membership is required to volunteer for fun.
